What does it mean to become a member of the MYBC?

Almost all MYBC events and meetings are free (unless otherwise specified for a special event) and you don’t need to become a member to attend. However, in addition to the opportunity to enjoy fun activities and birds with your peers, there are many benefits to becoming a youth member (ages 8-17) of the Missouri Young Birders Club.

Membership Benefits:

  • A brand new Sibley’s Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America!

  • Direct involvement in a variety of club decisions

  • Opportunities to participate in the conservation of Missouri’s wildlife and their habitats

  • Learning and hearing from professionals in the field

  • Getting know the other young birders in your area and from all over the state.

Steps to become a member:

  1. Complete the preliminary membership form (to the right).

  2. Read the American Birding Association Code of Ethics.

  3. Download and complete the MYBC Membership Form.

  4. Please email completed membership form to education@mrbo.org or mail to MRBO – MYBC, PO Box 16, Arrow Rock, MO 65320

  5. Mail payment check to address in Step 4 OR Pay on-line

Membership Roles:

  • These members are typically between the ages of 8-11 or the younger members of the group who are eager to learn more about birds and nature, share their experiences and have fun!

  • These members are typically between the ages of 11-14, but can be any age. These members want to take on more of a leadership role within the club, but don’t quite yet have the birding experience to be mentors.

  • These members are typically between the ages of 14-17 or the older members of the group who have some experience with bird identification and a desire to be leaders within the Missouri Young Birders community.

Regional chapters

  • The Central Chapter’s region is not specific and has members from Columbia, Sedalia, Marshall, Warrensburg, and Sweet Springs. We are always looking for new members to join us not only to bird, but to do other fun nature-related activities! Bring the whole family as there is something for everyone. We love playing games and exploring the natural world in every way possible. We meet at least once a year at Knob Noster State Park in the Visitors Center and other locations in central Missouri. We hope you can join us at our next event!

  • The Kansas City chapter is one of the Missouri Young Birders Club (MYBC) chapters that are starting up around the state, an effort spearheaded and directed by the Missouri River Bird Observatory. The aim of the MYBC is to bring young people together to enjoy and learn about birds and conservation in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. The club meets throughout the year for birding field trips and other bird-related activities. In addition to birding, youth members will be given opportunities to take on leadership roles within the club and gain valuable experience.

  • This chapter of the Missouri Young Birders Club is evolving so there is a great opportunity to get in and help develop this chapter of the club. We are currently looking for a Chapter Leader to guide and inspire this group.

  • Brand New Chapter in the Ozark Region! This chapter of the Missouri Young Birders Club is new in 2023 so there is a great opportunity to get in and help develop this chapter of the club. Maramec Springs Park in St. James will be the club “home”. This beautiful area will be an amazing place for the chapter to grow.
