Field Trip! – Thousand Hills State Park
April 9, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 amFree
Calling all young birders in the Kirksville area! Will you join us for a morning of bird sights and sounds?
The Missouri Young Birders Club is hosting its first field trip in the area in partnership with Missouri State Parks at Thousand Hills State Park. We will meet at 9 am at the Beach Shelter House (directions below) to do introductions and talk about what we might see and hear. Then we will go birding on the ADA accessible FLATS trail and end back at the shelter house for a review of what we saw and a snack.
Please bring your own water bottle and binoculars if you have them! If you don’t have binoculars, we will have some available for you to borrow. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and for a long walk.
Event is free and all are welcome!
Beach Shelter directions: Follow Hwy 157 into Thousand Hills State Park. Do NOT turn on Big Loop Road. Turn Left on Beach Trail Road. It is the Road after Campground 2, but before the Cabins. Beach Trail Road leads to a large parking lot, with the Beach Shelter to the left of the beach. If you turn on Big Loop Road, you can take the one way loop ALL the way around the park. Go straight at the stop sign, which will take you past the marina, dining lodge, and cabins. Then turn left on Beach Trail Road.
There are pit latrines available near the beach shelter.
